Service Bulletin Announcements
March 7, 2010 |

- During worship this morning we are celebrating the
sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. All who proclaim Jesus
Christ as Lord and Savior are members of Christ’s household
and are invited to commune. Elders and Deacons serving
Communion are David Clinesmith, Denise Lindley (8:30) and
Misty Baptiste, Walter & Sandi Haltom, Robert Hopper and
David Miller (10:45). Communion will be served later today
to our home bound members by Ruth Doocy and Mike Reeves.
- The draft copy of the new Nor’kirk Directory is
on the table in the Narthex. Please review your family’s
information and make any additions and/or corrections.
Please initial by your name so we will know who has looked
at it. Don’t forget to give us your email addresses!
- The Adult Bible Study class is discussing
chapters 23 through 25 of the book of Genesis and Isaac’s
meeting with Rebekah. All are welcome to join us in Price
Hall after the 8:30 worship service as we continue our
journey through the Old Testament.
- “Being Christian” ~ Please plan on joining us each
Sunday at 9:30 am in the last room on the right of the CE
Wing for our newest adult Sunday School class. “Being
Christian” takes the fundamentals of our faith and provides
the opportunity to discuss the Bible, our faith and our
history. Please contact Tim McNutt at 214-215-4065 or
tim.mcnutt@brightco.com if you have questions or need
any additional information.
- We will not have Children’s Church today as it is
a communion Sunday.
- Lenten Pot-Luck Dinners: Come join us this evening
as we continue our Sunday
evening Pot-Luck Dinners and Lenten Study. We meet at 6:00
p.m. for our meal. Note that we don’t instruct people in
what to bring, but truly eat what is brought. After our
meal we adjourn to the Sanctuary for a Lenten reading and
discussion. We are finished around 7:30 p.m. Our theme for
these Lenten studies is “Returning Home.” Through
dramatic first-person readings we are looking at the
Prodigal Son story in depth. We hope you will join us.
- We were witnesses to God’s provision on Monday night.
You may recall it was cold, wet and rainy. It was also our
night to serve the evening meal at the Austin Street
Centre. We served 440 people their evening meal!
Thanks to everyone who made hard boiled eggs, purchased
bananas, and made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and
those who served the evening meal—David and Susie Clinesmith,
Eric and Diane Haist, Walter Haltom, and Peg Kinkade—no one
went hungry on a cold night. Our next evening of service is
Monday, April 5th.
- Hey you peeps – have you heard the buzz? No, no, no
that was last year’s Lenten drive, when we
raised $1001 to buy chickens and bees for Heifer
International! This year, it’s “Holy Cow,” we
did so well before that we are going to try to raise enough
to buy two cows for families in impoverished places
somewhere in the world. So, save your milk money, your
coffee money, and your fun money during Lent and bring that
money to church. A cow is $500, so “Holy Cow, we need $1000
to make this work!” If you have questions, contact Nancy
Pratt or Paul Barnett.
Update: We have collected $343 and several milk
bottles of change toward our cow purchase! Please continue
to add your contributions to our funds, either via a milk
bottle or one of the red envelopes located in the pews and
stamped with a cow for identification!
- Preschool registration
continues for our Fall 2010-Spring 2011
school year. Our Nor’kirk members and currently enrolled
families have priority to register. We are excited to
continue to offer our quality early childhood program for
1-5 year olds. Call or email Diane Haist at the preschool:
972-305-3707 or
dianeh@thenorkirk.org.
- Our High School Youth Group, “Shindig”,
will meet on Wednesday, March 10th from
4:30 – 6:00 p.m. at The Nor’kirk. Bill Parr and David
Miller are the adult sponsors here every Wednesday. Hope to
see you here! Bring your friends!
- The next BYOB
(Bring Your Own Beef) Party for the Men of The Nor’kirk will
be held on Saturday, March 13th at 7:00
p.m. at the home of Jim Davis (2301 Queen Morgan,
Lewisville). Bring your favorite cut of meat and
beverage and enjoy some wonderful fellowship. RSVP to John
Bara at 214-724-3089.
- In 2009, the Ministry with Children team nominated
Andrew Maust, currently a member of our Confirmation Class,
as a “Kohl’s Kid Who Cares” for his work with the Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation. Andrew won awards both at the
local store level and the regional level. We’d love to
nominate another Nor’kirk child (ages 6-12) for this award –
if you know of a child who has contributed through his or
her own initiative to a charitable cause, please contact
Anne Thomas or Nancy Pratt. We’ll take it from there and
try to submit a nomination. The deadline is March 15th,
so we’ll need your information by next Sunday, March 14th.
- The All Church Workday is scheduled for
Saturday, March 27 and the theme is Spring Cleaning.
Projects will focus on window washing and landscaping.
Window washers are encouraged to bring any equipment they
may possess -- squeegees, sponge mops and buckets.
Landscapers will help prepare the island bed and the east
side of Price Hall. Needed tools include wheelbarrows,
garden forks, rakes and shovels.
- The area schools are closed on Good Friday, April 2nd,
so The Nor’kirk is once again offering “Camp Good Friday,” a
one-day VBS-type program with an emphasis on the Easter
Story. Children ages 4 through 5th grade are
invited to attend this fun, free morning, and we need youth
and adults as volunteers. So make plans now to be a part of
Camp Good Friday. Registration forms will be available
beginning Sunday, March 14th. If you would like
to volunteer to help with the camp, contact Anne Thomas or
Nancy Pratt. The program will last from 9am until noon on
April 2nd, and will include singing, Bible
stories, games, snack, and more. We hope everyone will plan
to be here.
- Save the date! The Nor’kirk’s next blood drive
is scheduled for Sunday, April 18th from
8am to 12pm.
- The Nor’kirk’s Local Missions Committee invites you to
Be Good Steward of our Earth! On Saturday, April
24th (from 9am-3pm), the City of Carrollton is teaming
up with the Dallas Area Household Hazardous Waste Network in
order to host this day which will enable you to safely
dispose of all unwanted hazardous waste and electronics in
your homes and garages. The disposal site can be found at
1441 W. Trinity Mills (south side of the Bush Tollway at
I35E – by the bus terminal). The following items will be
accepted: pool & yard chemicals, batteries of all kinds,
fluorescent light tubes, automotive fluids, oil, gasoline,
paint, home repair products, household cleaners & polishes,
all types of electronics (small fee for TVs and monitors
only).
- The World Missions Ministry is in need of several
more volunteers to join their committee. Please contact
Paul Barnett at 469-766-1371 for more information.
- Calling all children and youth ages 6-16 – it’s time to
start thinking about Summer Camp. Grace Presbytery
will offer 12 different camping experiences this summer,
including Wilderness Camping and Counselor Training! Last
year we had five Nor’kirk college youth serving as camp
counselors – and some of them will return this year. Start
thinking about camp! More information will be provided
later.
- High School Youth! Have you heard stories about the “Mo
Ranch experience” and wondered what it’s all about? We’d
love to send a group of youth to Mo Ranch’s High School
Youth Celebration this summer, June 27-July 2.
Go ahead and mark your calendars now and think about going.
If we have a group that is interested, we’ll find an adult
sponsor for the week. The cost will probably be about $400
each – we’ll know more once we receive the packet from Mo
Ranch. What we need now is to find out if you are available
and interested. Please let David Miller know!
- Become a fan of The Nor’kirk -- join us on our
Facebook page. (The Nor'kirk Presbyterian) Updates for
all events are posted weekly, as well as pictures from the
events. Invite your friends to be Nor'kirk friends as
well. Visitors to The Nor’kirk Facebook will see all the
fun and exciting things our little church can do!
- Did you know that The Nor’kirk has a small team of
people who provide meals for members of the church who are
in need? We are looking to expand this team and this is
your opportunity to help! For more information or to lend a
helping hand, please contact Tiffany Wylie at 972-418-0277
or
Tiffany.Wylie@tylertech.com.
- Great news! If you have wanted to become more involved
in church activities but have not been able to because of
lack of childcare, The Nor’kirk is offering a solution. If
you wish to attend ANY Nor’kirk activity but need
babysitting, please let Kim Ready know at least 3 days
prior to the event and she will contact one of our
well-qualified babysitters to watch your children at the
church. Additionally, if you would like to add your name to
the babysitter totem pole, please contact Kim at
972-395-3742 or
maestrokim@verizon.net.
Older Announcements:
- Would you like to hear the Mariachi to Mozart
concert again, or maybe for the first time? We recorded
it, and a CD is being produced. Let Ben Ewart
(972-317-4205) know if you would like a copy!
