Service Bulletin Announcements
February 5, 2012

  • Our pastor Bill Parr, his wife Angi, and our Music Director Lane Paschal and his wife Carla are all in Costa Rica this weekend on a Mission trip to a Methodist Mission Camp.  In Bill’s absence, our pulpit is being filled this morning by Nancy Pratt, our Director of Christian Education, and Holy Communion is being celebrated by Rev. Nancy Tiegreen, an Honorably Retired Minister of the Word and Sacrament.  In Lane’s absence, we welcome Cross Ties, a band made up of Nor’kirk members Carey Newton, Mike Mayo, Greg and Terry Hefner and Scott Hilburn and accompanied by our own Kevin Gay.

  • During worship this morning we are celebrating the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.  All who proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are members of Christ’s household and are invited to commune.  Elders and Deacons serving Communion are Kimberly Guinn, Craig Hines (8:30) and Jim & Karen Davis, Shari Sobek, and Rick & Anne Thomas (10:45).  Communion will be served later today to our home bound members by Luke Viguers and Phillip Wylie.

  • Giving envelopes are available in the attendance books in the sanctuary.  Please ask an usher to assist you if you cannot locate one.

  • The Adult Bible Study class will continue our journey through Luke's scripture with a study of the parables and miracles of Jesus in Chapter 8.  In this chapter, Jesus explains the power of the Word through his story on how it is cultivated on different types of soil, and then demonstrates the strength of his Word by both casting out demons of a man possessed as well as by raising the daughter of Jairus from the dead.  All are welcome to join us in the Red Sea room following the 8:30 am service as we continue our weekly study of scripture.

  • You are invited to the Sunday Morning Small Group, meeting at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday in Price Hall next to the Senior High Room!  This Group is founded on the principle that by developing and expanding a deep, rich personal connection among our journeyers, we can come to understand more fully our relationship with Christ and Christ’s relationship with us.  Each Sunday we explore and apply the message of the Bible to our everyday lives.  Topic, this week: What hinders our ability to make the time to commune with God?

  • Please stay after the 10:45 service today and make sandwiches for the Austin Street Centre.

  • Club 3:16 Youth Fellowship: Super Bowl Sunday!!!  Today we will meet at 5:00 p.m. at Leah Schwartz's house, 3112 Andrew Lane in Carrollton.  We will have snacks and fellowship, and we might even watch some football!  For anyone who needs to be home early, we will drop you off at your home after the half-time show.  For anyone who wants to stay until the end, have your parents pick you up at Leah's house after the game.  Call Susan at 972- 939-7027 for directions or questions.  We look forward to seeing you, and as always, feel free to bring a friend.
    Sunday February 12th: Sunday Fun Day @ The Nor'kirk from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Hope to see you all there!

  • Kidquake, the annual weekend event at Camp Gilmont for students in elementary school, will be March 23-25 OR April 20-22 OR April 27-29 this year.  Please talk to your child and determine if he or she wants to attend! Friends are welcome too. The event will cost $115 per student, and we will need to send adult sponsors with the group.  If your child is interested let Nancy Pratt know ASAP which dates are best for your family and if you can attend as a sponsor.  The deadline for letting us know (and for providing a check payable to The Nor’kirk in the amount of $115) is today.

  • Middle School Youth, we now know about your Spring YouthQuake weekend too!  The event takes place at Camp Gilmont and the dates will be either March 30 – April 1 OR April 13-15, and the cost will be $120 each.  We need to know if you are going to go by today!  Friends are welcome.  We’ll need to take adult sponsors with us, so ask your parents.  Remember, we must know today if you plan to attend and which dates work best for you.

  • Ready to be taken for a ride?  Use the Nor'kirk Taxi Service!
Need a ride to medical appointments, to fetch medication, or transport your kids if you are sick?  Give us a call or drop us an email.  We will have someone from The Nor'kirk Driver's list give you a call and deliver you door-to-door.  Whether you are in need of one-time-only help or long-term assistance, we can get you where you need to be.  We hope this service will eliminate some tension as you are recovering from an illness or in the midst of a stressful time in your life.  It also may be an opportunity to get to know some fellow Nor'kirkers a little better.  Please provide us with at least a 24-hour notice if possible. Call 972-342-0925 or email at rhdoocy@yahoo.com and get taken for a ride!  Also if you can provide a ride, please fill out the yellow volunteer form found on the table in the Narthex, and put it in the offering plate or give it to one of the ushers.  Thanks for your help!!
